Tanks. When they aren’t worn as a sleeveless clothing piece, serve a pretty basic function: they store stuff. Fortunately for quick lube business owners, there are different types of tanks used in our industry. At DEVON Lube, we proudly carry a wide variety of tanks for quick lube business owners across America.

Plastic/Metal Storage Tank

Roth tanks are designed to be the safest and most reliable on the market. Their innovative design approach involves an outer tank made of leak-proof, weld-free galvanized steel and roll seamed with an oil and fire-resistant seal. The inner tank is made of blow-molded, high-density, seamless polyethylene that is leak-proof and will never corrode. This satisfies the requirement to have a dual-wall system for your oils and is easier on your wallet than a solid steel tank.

Another advantage that Roth tanks have is that they are portable and even come with handles so that you and a partner can safely transport them if necessary. Roth tanks come in a variety of sizes, however, if your floor plan is unusual, you may have difficulty maximizing your tank storage with this style.

Solid Metal Tanks

Let’s say that the floorplan for your quick lube is unusual, to say the least. This is where metal tanks have an advantage over Roth/Plastic tanks. The sizes are endless when it comes to metal tanks such as Newberry Tanks. They can build according to your floor plan, which maximizes floor space and can prevent headaches down the line.

As with many things made of metal, they are extremely durable for this reason. Mistakes happen, such as forgetting to open the vent when pumping oil out of a tank. This can create a vacuum and cause your tank to implode like the picture above.

Plastic Tanks

If your quick lube location has a smaller floor plan, then saving space may be a priority for you. Introducing plastic Rhino tanks with the ability to be stacked. The interlocking ridges on the top and bottom allow for stacking to be securely locked in place.

Because the tanks are made from plastic, there is a wide variety of shapes and sizes to best accommodate your quick lube business. Because of their construction, you can immediately see the liquid/oil level in the tank. No need for external site gauges! The tanks allow you to have the oil to be gravity fed or you can utilize the openings at the top to further customize your setup.

So what we learned today is that although lubrication tanks don’t look as cool as tank-tops…they serve a necessary purpose at the quick lube. Because they are so essential, there are many different styles and materials used to make tanks for the quick lube industry. At the end of the day, it comes down to your individual needs and recognizing what’s best for your business!
